Pharmacy Design & Planning

Veritas Pharmacy Consulting partners with healthcare organizations and design teams during early planning and design phases to ensure pharmacy environments are operationally sound, compliant, and aligned with intended use.

Services include review of layouts, adjacencies, pressure relationships, and workflow to identify regulatory and operational risks before they become costly to correct. Support may involve new construction, renovation, or upfitting of existing pharmacy and IV room spaces, including expansion, reconfiguration, and efficiency improvements within established environments.

Veritas provides practical input grounded in real-world pharmacy operations to support informed decision-making throughout the design process.

IV Room Design Across Project Phases

Veritas supports IV room design across all stages of a project, from early conceptual planning through detailed configuration and implementation.

Design decisions evolve as projects progress. The following stages illustrate how IV room layouts are developed to address spatial relationships, regulatory requirements, workflow efficiency, and workstation-level functionality—ensuring pharmacy environments are safe, compliant, and operationally sustainable.

Stage 1: Adjacencies & Spatial Relationships

Early planning focuses on defining appropriate adjacencies between USP <800>, ante, workspace, and USP <797> areas. These relationships establish the foundation for safe operations, efficient movement, and regulatory alignment.

Stage 2: Pressure, Airflow & Pass-Through Logic

Environmental controls are refined to ensure appropriate pressure differentials, airflow direction, and pass-through placement. These elements are critical to maintaining compliance with USP <797> and <800> requirements while supporting safe material transfer.

Stage 3: Workflow Visualization

Workflow modeling evaluates how pharmacy staff, materials, and information move through the space. Visualizing handoffs and communication helps reduce inefficiencies, minimize unnecessary movement, and support safe, consistent operations.

Stage 4: Hood & Workstation-Level Detail

Final design decisions translate planning into execution. Hood placement, workstation layout, storage, waste handling, and ergonomics are optimized to support day-to-day compounding activities, staff efficiency, and long-term operational performance.
